Research activities
Dr. Tung received her Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University in 2004. She currently serves as a Professor at the Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering at National Taiwan University (NTU), a position she has held since 2006. Additionally, she is the Director of the Water Innovation, Low-Carbon, and Environmental Sustainability Research Center at NTU. Her research interests expansively span water quality and microbiology, with a significant portion of her work focusing on water treatment, disinfection, and disinfection byproduct control. This encompasses biological potable water treatment, chlorine and UV disinfection processes, rainwater harvesting, microbial ecology in water distribution and built environments, and biological stability in water distribution systems. Dr. Tung is a board member of both the Water Affairs Organization Taiwan and the Taiwan Society of Microbial Ecology. She has engaged with several water and microbiology-related organizations, such as the International Water Association, American Water Works Association, American Chemical Society, and American Society of Microbiology. She served as an editor for the Journal of Water Supply: Research and Technology AQUA from 2016 to 2020 and has continued her editorial contributions to Water Supply from 2020 to the present.
