Academic Activity: “SAWACO in the 150-Year Flow”

In an effort to provide opportunities for exchange, learning and updated practical knowledge in urban water supply and drainage, the Faculty of Environment & Labour Safety (ENLABSAFE) at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held an academic session attended by numerous lecturers, researchers and students of the Faculty.

The event was honoured by the participation of Mr Trần Cường – Technical Director of Saigon Water Corporation (SAWACO) – as the keynote presenter, alongside other company specialists.

In his presentation, Mr Trần Cường outlined an overview of SAWACO’s history and development: from its early beginnings during the Indochina era, through a dynamic development period between 2005 and 2024, and towards its vision for sustainable growth. Key topics included:
• The water supply systems sourcing from the Dong Nai and Saigon Rivers
• Major milestones in SAWACO’s development
• The application of smart technologies and digital transformation in water resource management
• Solutions to reduce non-revenue water and improve service quality

The discussion segment became vibrant as students engaged the presenter with questions on issues such as non-revenue water, clean water production capacity, service improvement, and possible collaborations between SAWACO and the University regarding training, research and technology transfer.

At the conclusion of the session, Dr Ho Ngo Anh Dao – Dean of ENLABSAFE – extended thanks to the presenter and emphasised the practical value of the event for students, noting its role in bridging academic theory and professional practice, and opening the path for sustainable collaboration between the Faculty and industry partner SAWACO.

The academic session concluded successfully in a spirit of openness, learning and inspiration.
