Field trip to the Rung Sac - Can Gio Biosphere Reserve: Connecting theory with environmental practice.

On December 14, 2025, the Faculty of Environment and Labour Protection, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) organized a field study visit to the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve for first-year students majoring in Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering Technology. This meaningful activity effectively integrated theory with practice, providing valuable academic experiences and helping students gain deeper insights into ecosystems, biodiversity, and the challenges of nature conservation.

The Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve is the first and largest mangrove forest in Viet Nam, recognized by UNESCO in 2000. Located in the southeastern area of Ho Chi Minh City, the reserve covers more than 75,000 hectares and serves as an important “green lung” with a rich and diverse ecosystem, including mangrove species such as Avicennia and Rhizophora, long-tailed macaques, and various bird species. The field trip offered students a practical learning environment where theoretical knowledge could be examined and reinforced through direct observation and hands-on experience.

The learning journey at the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve was not only a meaningful field experience but also an inspiring activity for first-year students in Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering Technology. Through this visit, students not only enhanced their knowledge but also developed a strong awareness of the importance of protecting the natural environment, thereby shaping career orientations associated with social responsibility and sustainability. The Faculty of Environment and Labour Protection hopes to continue organizing similar activities to improve training quality and encourage students to contribute to Viet Nam’s green and sustainable development.
