Experiential Learning Journey of Students from the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety at TDTU – Khánh Hòa Campus

In October 2025, senior students from the Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering Technology programs embarked on a meaningful experiential learning trip under the theme “Applied Ecology and Safe Water Supply.”

Over three days of “learning beyond the classroom,” students had the chance to transform theoretical knowledge into hands-on experiences, turning lessons into real-world practice.

"

The first stop was Suối Dầu Reservoir, the main raw water source for the region. Here, students observed the entire water collection and treatment process — from natural streams to potable water. Together with their lecturers, they discussed solutions for safe and sustainable water supply, such as water reuse, the application of advanced treatment technologies, and watershed protection with community-based water management. All discussions emphasized green development, environmental impact reduction, and long-term water security.

On the second day, the group explored the Hòn Bà Nature Reserve, a biodiversity hotspot of Khánh Hòa Province. Guided by instructors, students learned to assess species richness, population density, habitat diversity, and ecosystem health, realizing that every tree and insect tells a story about natural balance. The group also visited the House and Memorial Site of Dr. Alexandre Yersin, a physician and scientist who devoted his life to Vietnam. The visit inspired great admiration for his dedication, humility, and scientific passion — a shining example for today’s environmental science students.

"

On the final day, students and lecturers applied ecological techniques in biodiversity conservation and resource management. Concepts such as ecosystem-based management, restoration ecology, and green infrastructure became more tangible as students directly measured sustainability indicators like water retention capacity and habitat connectivity. Each measurement and dataset revealed the tangible effects of climate change and the importance of harmonizing human activities with nature.

"

After three days of immersive learning, students not only deepened their knowledge but also honed essential skills in observation, analysis, and evaluation under the guidance of their dedicated lecturers.
More importantly, they realized that studying Environmental Science is not only about treating water or analyzing samples, but also about protecting ecosystems, embracing sustainable living, and promoting environmental consciousness.

This field trip marked a memorable highlight in their academic journey at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) — empowering students of the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety to grow as competent, “green-minded” professionals ready to contribute to a sustainable future.
